Q1:What is a WEB server?†
Answer:
- A web server is a computer program that delivers (serves) content, such as this web page, using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
- ASL web server is: "aslweb"
Q2:What is a FILE server?†
Answer:
- A FILE server is a computer used to store files for access by other client computers on a network of computers.
- ASL file server is: "zxw001"
Q3:What is a DNS server?†
Answer:
- A DNS server houses the IP addresses used to access internet resources. The internet operates via IP address in the format of 255.255.255.255 (i.e. 163.143.1.101). Since those are hard to remember, DNS servers are responsible for translating the user friendly names like eureka.u-aizu.ac.jp to 163.143.1.100.
- DNS sever on the campus is: "100.1.143.163.in-addr.arpa"
- DNS server is: "eureka"
- DNS IP address is: 163.143.1.100.
Q4:How to uplaod my RPR and RPS presentations?†
Answer:
- You should upload your presentation about RPS of RPS.
Q5:How to login to my account?†
Answer:
At ASL lab;
- You can login to our web server and file server directly.
- How to login to web server?
- Using ssh through port 20022.
- Home directry is /home/[LOGIN NAME].
- e.g. ssh -p 20022 -l [LOGIN NAME] aslweb
- How to login to file server?
- Using ssh through default port 22.
- e.g. ssh zxw001.
Outside ASL lab;
- You can longin only to the web server directly.
- If you login to file server from outside our lab, you need to login first to web server, then login to the file server.
Q6. How to use FTP ?†
Answer:
You have 2 way of transferring files to file server.
- Type "\\zxw001.u-aizu.ac.jp" in address bar.
- Type login name and password.
- Another is using WinSCP.

- mkdir dirname --- make a new directory
- cd dirname -- change directory

- ftp hostname --- lets you download files from a remote host which is set up as an ftp-server.
